About Jakhi McCray

On July 21, 2025, Jakhi McCray - a 21 year old Black organizer - turned himself in to the New York Police Department following a month long federal manhunt for him on allegations that he set fire to ten NYPD vehicles on the night of June 12, 2025. Jakhi now faces 5 to 20 years in federal prison on charges of federal arson.

This is not Jakhi's first experience with state repression – since October of 2023, Jakhi was arrested over 11 times as he protested for a Free Palestine and an end to the genocide in Gaza, as well as for ICE-free communities.

Jakhi's Words

"Repression is the state trying to call our bluff. It is intense because it shows itself when our potential to disrupt genocide and capital becomes too grand to ignore…this is as much of a make or break moment for them as it is for us. Our greatest strength is each other – we are comrades, and with that comes a promise to love, defend, and fight for one another."

Current Status

Jakhi was remanded to house arrest at his family home in New Jersey. Letters can be addressed to him and will be delivered by members of his support committee.
